Hello Everyone,
I’m here in sunny San Diego with Chor shooting footage of his vibrant mural at the Westin Shopping Mall in Horton Plaza. We’ll be interviewing the curator of the Museum of Modern Art- San Diego tomorrow about this project. I met her today and it will be great to include her voice in the film (being that she is from a traditional art background). Also, have been meeting and interviewing Chor’s SD friends from back in the day when he started out at Writer’s Block (a non-profit organization that supports street art). His friend Jose told us something funny. Back in the day Chor would not paint letters or anything resembling graffii. He would paint “Chor One- From the Sun” on a wall. People were like, WTH? I laughed so hard when I heard that.
His piece here is mesmerizing. Yes, all of his work is great. But, my assistant Whitney and I have been thinking of all the meaning behind this one piece. The formless becoming form. Sacred Geometry. Birth of a new vision. Alternative reality. What are your thoughts? Share them on our Facebook page. Check out photos of the mural work-in-progress below!
I love this piece a lot- so am thinking of making a video art installation piece to include not only in the film- but to be included in Chor’s upcoming show in San Francisco at Project One. It would be so fun to animate the Boogie Bird and the surrounding circular shapes.
Stay tuned for more…I’m here shooting footage in SD until Wednesday. We’re headed to Writer’s Block soon.
Love,
